The first days of January saw the end of the holidays for some people who have spent Christmas with us. It's always a sad moment, because people who came as guests and leave as friends go, but most rebook so we meet again. As I write this report, the heatwave continues, we have the warmest January on record, the sun is implacable, and every day is over 100 degrees. We have not had a drop of rain in five weeks, the lake has dropped about a foot as we watering gardens twice a day from the lake. Back to humor – my manager Watt, bless him, is very gullible and Sean took him a treat this month. Watt was asked how he could increase the size his manhood, if Sean was informed of a cream called 3-in-1 triple the size of your face, and the poor young Watt has been caught. My daughter Becca Immac hair remover bought several more for Christmas, we have therefore put in a single bottle and presented it to Watt. After an hour, it washed the cream off with all their forests. They came to see me in a state of horror and shock, but were very relieved when I told them this is the first stage of growth and repeat next month. Oh what a disgusting person that I am! The method top this month looks alien to European fishermen, but Many of the Siamese carp out of a loader method 3ft fished below a float with a golf ball size fishmeal boilie suspended under it. The first newcomers were our dear friends Wil and Betty Holland, who came last year for a few days and stayed a few weeks before leaving for an epic bike trip back to France to Holland. This time, their journey was tame, coming straight to Thailand and return airfare. We are planning a trip together for June now, when we fishing for mahseer Thai jungle, which is where the troubles in the Congo did not end, because the minute they do not we all intend to race to catch a Goliath Tiger fish. Last year, Wil and Betty came as customers, and this year, as with many of our guests, they are returned as friends. They planned a trip of five days here, and once again stayed longer – as Wil got into fishing, the trip is past ten days. We have been dreading another group that came to us, there were 30 people. We had to arrange a speedboat to collect only 50 miles from the island far, and minibuses to transport them to the beach here, but they were an absolute joy to host. All day went well, and we managed to accommodate them for the night, when they would not leave. There was not one person in the group that had the slightest problem, but fish retained their nuts down though, as there had never been so many lines in the lake at once. Paul and Lorraine, it was a pleasure welcome you all and we look forward to you returning all for a year for a holiday. As for Lorraine, she was awarded a medal to organize the entire stay for 30.
We also had a visit from two brothers who we nicknamed The Wurzels, a pair of really nice guys who lived on a farm in the country, and decided to have an adventure. They were never left their county, let alone the country, and they had never heard about a place called Oxford, where our guide comes from Kevin. Imagine the surprise of the boys when they landed in Thailand! Apparently, at home, they do not go out drinking, "We'ze Don'ts fate dranking, we'ze stays wiz a cup of tea noice ORF. So now enough of my Twaddle and fishing. This month saw 45 tickets a day (30 in one group) and 38 guests fishing holidays in Thailand, fishing in Thailand from a few days to a few weeks. Between them they landed 465 fish of 15 species, composed as follows … Arapaima 25 to 400 pounds, 12 catfish of the Mekong for £ 180, 255 Siamese carp to 120 pounds, 72 catfish to 80 pounds red tail, five alligator gar 15lbs, four Asian catfish Red-tailed 30 pounds, 13 black pacu £ 30 September Chao Phraya catfish to 65 pounds, 19 Sorubim spotted at 35 pounds, four awards of the golden carp Julien £ 25, eight spotted featherback at 10 pounds, 17 rohu carp to 16 pounds, 18 striped snakehead to 4 pounds, five giant Stingray 120 pounds, and Attu Wallago of 24lb.
As mentioned Wil previously, with his much better half, Betty of Holland were the first guests of news after Christmas. The fishing this year has been slower than the previous one, but as Wil target big fish that suited him and his style of fishing. Wil goal this year was to catch carp Siam. Betty was again Chief Photographer, Reporter, general gopher, and recipient of live bait. Betty likes to float fishing for our species lesser, but Wil established strict rules – no fishing float before 9am to avoid scaring the fish! Wil session ended five arapaima to 200 pounds, 13 carp Siamese £ 110 and three channel catfish of the Mekong for £ 130. This three species in one trip exceeding 100 pounds! Plus he had five red tail catfish at 45 pounds, and some rohu and Pacu.
The next new arrivals who came to us via fishing trips in Siam, were totally Mark relaxed with his non-fishing wife Carol. I've never met anyone in my life as chilled as Mark, a boy charming just supported by the peace and tranquility of Gillham. We really had to look for Mark and all his equipment and grow in one place different, for only four days remaining before Mark awed by the beauty of our resort, failing to throw to show fish or sometimes for that matter even failing to cast. Poor Marc trip ended with one fish (mind you that was one more than the towers managed fisheries Siam to do so). He promised to return with his head on the fishing next time, but you see, Mark has shown you do not need to take fish to enjoy a trip here. Judging by the amount consumed by Slim, we estimated that the fight took an hour, or 10 pies, 11 cakes, a bucket of ice and 20 fags!
Then came the incredible hulk brothers Ricky and Terry Clark. These two giants have been spot-on sound guys who came and enjoyed every moment of their stay. They came hoping for a arapaima, but they caught was a bonus – just the attitude needed to fish here. Now the first day Ricky, who is about 10 feet high with a Physical Search Arnie makes a sissy, took a catfish Mekong Nice. He was snatched from the net as if it were a minnow, "How much," he asked? Well judging by the ease with which he had just raised is that I 5LB said, but went instead of 120 pounds not to offend! "No", he said: "I count 180 pounds, and who was I to claim? Another laid back Mr. Nice Guy, Ken Weeks, recorded in one week. Ken came to relax and hopefully take a few fish. It was very fun to be with, and enjoyed his stay here. The first few days, Ken just chilled in the wrong swim, but has not been disturbed. Later in the week, he moved at the other end of the lake, fish landing 31 of the week. He got into a shoal of carp Siamese, and took 18 to 50 pounds. At the same time, my dear friends Jamie and Carol McLean came just for a quiet break for us. Jamie does manage a couple of short sessions between the pool and visits, then Carole disclosed that its secret steak and kidney pudding and copy to Steve Bacon pudding. Oh! mate, they are to die for, and are now in the menu by Gillham – I already put on another 20 pounds! Jamie five best fish was a red tail of 65 pounds. I took a survey before Christmas of a guy named Jerker who wanted to go for a period of 48 hours of journey. I thought it was a wound from a second, but in reality it turns out to be a popular name in Scandinavia – There are apparently many Jerkers there! I guess when they leave they say Jerker's off! Sorry could not resist it is a bit like the young lad called Wayne Kerr. OK Back to the story … Jerker was a fanatic fishing, he has booked three rods, and has been busy from the moment he arrived. He had his best half Ida with him, and which pair! He said that Ida could fish, but he did it using corn or boilies in order not to catch bigger fish than him. The first day Ida was a machine, killing eight Siamese carp in a short feeding period, but the next day it correctly Jerker spanked with a catfish Mekong £ 150 in the morning, followed by three other Siamese carp to 120 pounds. While all this was happening, Jerker poor in the next swim landed just two fish. The following week, Jerker returned for a day of fishing and to save face poor Ida was not allowed to fish! Reiner Dream Lake in Chiang Mai has sent his Austrian Andreas customer for us. When when he arrived, we were in the middle of a heatwave and the fishing was slow, but in a week, he still managed 21 fish five species. We have developed a fisheries specialist for fishermen where patience is rewarded with the biggest fish in your dreams. Most people catch a fish dream in a week, sometimes two or three. We have never claimed Gillham as a fishing mackerel you catch a fish a chuck of a stock overcrowded pond where all the fish are hungry and emaciated. Our fish are larger and the best conditioned fish in Asia due to low stocking density and an abundance of natural food. You need to wait nearly four fish day with a fish of dreams as a bonus. By contrast Henk and employment, the next guest had read about us and wanted peace, quiet and big fish in a beautiful setting. The spritely 70 years young Arthur Hawkins, with its delicious fish and his partner Angie, came for a week on their way home from visiting their daughter and grandchildren in Australia. Arthur first Gillham noted via Art of Gary Newman in Anglers Mail After visiting Anglers mail here. Target Arthur was a big fish of any species, as he wanted to win a hat Jonny abroad. After a week of chill-out and a second honeymoon, Arthur landed 13 fish of five species, the best being two arapaima to 220 pounds, and four catfish Red-tailed 75 pounds. Not to be outdone, Angie has shown all that women can do it fisherwoman a very competent and experienced who knows Arthur retired from fishing in the world. Angie 12 fish landed four species, the best being four catfish Red-tailed 80 pounds and six Siamese carp to 45 pounds. If poor Angie has not lost a few big fish one being a arapaima, it would eclipse Arthur. The couple both realized that the extreme heat was the slower fishing but agreed that it would still be Gillham paradise without the fish – in their words, the fish was a bonus. Top couple, fishing top – we will see both later this year.

A guy who made the trip this month is Nick Wheeler, an English ex-pat living and working there, Nick came with his wife and a daughter two years for a week's holiday with three days fishing, and landed ten fish in three days of six species, with arapaima to 120 pounds, Chao Phraya, catfish to 60 pounds, a baby catfish in the Mekong £ 65 plus catfish Red-tailed 65 pounds along with Siamese carp and Sorubim in Overall a fair bit of sport for a short trip.
