Irish Horror Movies Irish Horror Movies
horror films recommendation please!?

I need a good horror film for 11-15 year olds, rated no more than 15 (irish rating!) and also a halloween movie for younger children! 10 points up for grabs – remember that!!!

These are American films, but here are my suggestions.

For younger kids, get “Hocus Pocus” with Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker or any of the Harry Potter movies would be good.

For slightly older kids (teenagers), Harry Potter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Halloween, The Grudge, The Ring.

The League of Gentlemen – The Complete Series 3

The third series of The League of Gentlemen takes the portmanteau horror approach of their Christmas special and extends it daringly across the entire six episodes. Here, each half-hour installment is a self-contained story featuring various familiar and less well-known inhabitants of Britain’s most accursed town, Royston Vasey. But each individual tale leads–horribly, inevitably–towards a singl…

Edinburgh, 1827. Irish immigrants Burke (George Rose) and Hare (Donald Pleasance) hit upon the idea of selling the bodies of the recently deceased to eminent surgeon Dr. Robert Knox (Peter Cushing). Dr. Knox, knowing that experimental vivisection is the only way for medicine to make progress, forms an uneasy alliance with the self-styled body snatchers. When Burke and Hare’s supply of available corpses beginning to run out they decide to speed up the process along by murdering the poor and the homeless. Men and women, old and young, everyone becomes a target for the deadly duo, but even as the body count rises, Knox turns a blind eye to their methods in order to further his research. But after one of his own medical students is murdered, Knox finds it difficult to remain impassive. With the public out for the killers’ blood and the Medical Council out to disgrace him, Dr. Knox must use all of his skill and intelligence to preserve the dignity of his profession and to justify his controversial actions in the face of near-universal condemnation.

Liner notes by genre writer Jonathan Sothcott; This special Double Feature DVD presents the original U.K. cut of “The Flesh And The Fiends” in a brand-new widescreen transfer made directly from the film’s camera negative. Tanks were rolling across Europe. World War II had begun. For many Americans, U.S. involvement in the conflict became a question of “when” rather than “if.” Warner Bros. reflected that strengthening resolve with exciting, patriotic films set in the war gone by. One was the hard-hitting sage of “The Fighting 69th.” In the seventh of their nine movies together, off-screen pals James Cagney and Pat O’Brien play soldiers of the famed, largely Irish-American World War I regiment. O’Brien is Father Duffy, the brave chaplain whose status stands today in Times Square. Cagney is Jerry Plunkett, a street-tough braggart turned yellow by the horror of No Man’s Land, but inspired to redemptive heroism by Duffy’s courage under fire.

Audio Format: English Mono 1.0; Warner Night at the Movies 1940 Short Subjects Gallery: Vintage Newsreel, 2 Patriotic Shorts: “Young America Flies” and the Oscar(R)-nominated “London Can Take It!”; Classic Cartoons “The Fighting 69-1/2″ and “Pilgrim Porky”; Audio-Only Bonus: Radio Adaptation with Pat O’Brien, Robert Preston and Ralph Bellamy, 9-Dual Layer.

The true-life horror story of Jack the Ripper gets a new spin in this screen adaptation of the acclaimed graphic novel by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell. In 1888, a ruthless and cold-blooded killer begins hunting prostitutes in East London, and while the murderer’s work is savage, the mutilation of his victims suggests the fiend has an extensive medical background. Amidst a background of political unrest and barely contained scandal among the royal family, the murderer’s grisly exploits shock and frighten all of England, and one of Scotland Yard’s top inspectors, Fred Abberline (Johnny Depp), is put on the case, along with his partner, Peter Godley (Robbie Coltrane). Abberline, depending on one’s viewpoint, is either blessed or cursed with second sight, and while he blurs his ability to see future events with opium and other drugs, he still has an uncanny ability to ferret out dangerous criminals, which is put to the test as he and Godley search for the Ripper. As Abberline and Godley investigate the neighborhood where the crimes occur, they become acquainted with the prostitutes and street people who were friends and compatriots of the victims, and Abberline finds himself falling in love with Mary Kelly (Heather Graham), a beautiful Irish streetwalker. As Abberline tries to identify the killer before Mary Kelly can become the next victim, he and Godley have to contend with Sir Charles Warren (Ian Richardson), their superior who is keen to pin the murders on a culprit who isn’t British, and Sir William Gull (Ian Holm), a respected physician who has his own ideas about the murders and the benefits of psychosurgery. From Hell marked a change of pace for Albert Hughes and Allen Hughes, the sibling directorial team best known for their gritty depictions of America’s urban underground in such films as Menace II Society and Dead Presidents. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide.

Audio Commentary, Alternate Ending and over 20 Deleted Scenes, Subtitles: English.

With “Hunger”, British filmmaker and artist Steve McQueen has turned one of history’s most controversial acts of political defiance into a jarring, unforgettable cinematic experience. In Northern Ireland’s Maze prison in 1981, twenty-seven-year-old Irish Republican Army member Bobby Sands went on a hunger strike to protest the British government’s refusal to recognize him and his fellow IRA inmates as political prisoners, rather than as ordinary criminals. McQueen dramatizes prison existence and Sands’ final days in a way that is purely experiential, even abstract, a succession of images full of both beauty and horror. Featuring an intense performance by Michael Fassbender, “Hunger” is an unflinching, transcendent depiction of what a human being is willing to endure to be heard.

Documentary, Interviews; Theatrical Trailer.

“The Making of ‘Hunger’”; “The Provo’s Last Card?” – A 1981 episode of the BBC program “Panorama”; Collectible Booklet Featuring an Essay by Film Critic Chris Darke.
