What should I buy for my room first? Surround sound, TV, movie collection? Thanks for all your answers?
I have a 15 inch TV and a collection of horror and comedies (lol I know kinda polar movie genre’s lol) and wondered what I should get first, any suggestions would be great I’m trying to make my room look more desirable and more enjoyable kind of boring and dull now
Surround sound system (Please recommend a set up or something because I’m pretty in the dark if you choose this one not mandatory though)
1080i wide screen TV
entertainment center (I have something of the sort that would work but nothing that’s totally desirable)
Movie posters for the room for decoration and with and more movies to my movie collection
I plan on getting a blue ray player but later.
It sounds like you already have a movie collection, so you might want to concentrate first on getting yourself a sound system.
The system you get is dependant upon your budget but you also want to future proof your investment before plunking down $3000 for equipment and figuring out later that you wished you paid a few grand more for better equipment. The regret can be costly.
You should go out to as many stores as you can get to and listen to equipment for yourself as everybody has different tastes. I have a marantz receiver, rega apollo cd player, pioneer elite dvd player and boston acoustic speakers and am very happy with my set up but you may like a different receiver and speakers. If you don’t want to fiddle with any controls and have the sound come at you as the director/producer/writer intended, you will probably want a “flat” receiver like the Marantz or a NAD. When I say “flat,” it means that there aren’t the jazz, stadium, club, rock, etc settings that a lot of brands come with. You can adjust bass, treble and so on on them, they just don’t have the preset rooms.
I also have $2000 invested in speaker cables and connectors. The wires you choose to hook everything up with is just as important as your components and speakers.
A great way to save money or to make your dollar go further is to buy close out equipment. Sites like www.musicdirect.com and www.audioadvisor.com have closeouts all the time on top end equipment. These are items that just have a new model coming in. Audioadvisor also has bedrock speaker cable on sale for unbeleivably cheap if you want to shell out the cash for good speaker cables.
For your TV, going out and seeing each TV is key as well. I bought a Sony Wega 32″ flat screen tube 3 years ago and it has a better picture than 98% of the plasmas and LCDs out there. Yeah, it weighs a ton (but that’s what free delivery is for) but you can probably still get the 36″ version of that Sony (or the XBR model) at Circuit City now for about $500 and it has an HDMI hookup so you’ll still be getting the Hi-Def picture from your blu-ray player you plan on buying.
